On a balmy summer evening in 2023, a group of friends met to discuss opera and possibilities. We spoke endlessly about our favourite works – the ones we could cast locally and the ones that we were most excited to perform. We mused about performing together and the other artists we couldn’t wait to collaborate with. We discussed all of the historical sites, landmarks and alternative venues we could utilize. And we shared ideas of how we could interact and connect with audiences in more meaningful ways. We dreamed together. 

Together we solidified our plans and in October 2023 our new company, OperAtlantic, was launched by co-founders John Bogardus, Andrew Pelrine, Suzanne Rigden and Tara Scott. Our first Opera Kitchen Party, featuring eight artists, was performed at the Basement for a sell-out crowd in January 2024. 

The Opera Kitchen Parties have become our signature events. Set in local bars they feature a mix of artists, genres and content. We’ve even had a Murder Mystery themed event for Halloween! In March 2025 we began to implement our exciting educational component; we partnered with the HRCE to have an Opera Discovery Day for a children’s choir. And we are just getting started! 

We have continued to dream. We’ve also had the privilege to connect with artists and audiences to find out what they are passionate about too. We have so much opera in our ears and at our fingertips… what stories will we decide to tell next?
